Hag Lake was awesome. By far my best performance to date!
The swim was two 750 meter loops which is my favorite layout. The single loop courses get really long. I swam it in 35:15 faster than my fastest swim and 1 min off my swim at Blue Lake a few weeks ago.
The bike course was pretty challenging. It also was a 2 loop course. There were some pretty big hills on it and I did well. I pushed the same effort on the down hills as I did on the uphill. I think I could have been a little stronger on the second lap but my run confidence was pretty shot after Blue Lake’s disaster so I wanted to save some.
I’m happy to report that the run went really well. I felt strong and in control the whole way. I picked people off on the run and about half way through it some one yelled at me as they came by on the bike. I had no idea who it was till I saw Emily on my way back after the run turn. I knew that I was going to want to pick up the pace of the run at the end. I thought about doing it with two miles left but ended but waiting untill 1.5 miles to go. In retrospect I could have and should have geared up at 2 miles because I had enough at the end.
Here’s a few pics and a video that Matt took from the race
